A Necklace, A Geas, and a Girl with Horns

Ka-bes' life is in front of her. She has graduated from the academy and will join the priesthood as a mage of wind and water. Except for one mistake, one lapse of judgment, and her bright future shatters leaving only regrets. And then even that is taken from her when something else is given to her and bound to her soul so she can't refuse.

Sifa plays with a branch imagining it to be a sword and imagining herself as a hero from the tales her protector reads to her every night. But brigands come and steal her herd and all she can do is flee to town, to try to find her only friend, her protector. When she gets there, everyone stares at her, whispers about her, like having horns on your head makes you less of a person, and in the end she learns a lesson about the heroes in the story books.

Following your heart can lead you straight into the hands of those who want you dead. Be prepared for a magical romp through the underbelly of the empire where your only hope might be someone you can't trust.

A Fantasic, Intricate Story

The Shepherd Girl’s Necklace is an epic fantasy which will keep you reading late into the night, as it’s impossible to put down! Even with the dark side of humanity being displayed, the story highlights the goodness in people and their will to do the right thing when push comes to shove. I thoroughly enjoyed the use of magic and spells throughout the book, each scene detailed and really fun to read. I’ve already recommended this book to several of my friends and I will continue to do so as the story continues on in the next book, The Snowtiger’s Trail.

There's something about this girl

I really was impressed with this story and the characters involved. Watson Davis created an imaginary world with great scenes and fleshed out characters. The story is filled with magic, sword play and mystery. Although the story isn't finished the story at hand is finished. I can't wait to read the next story. Too many questions to be answered yet.

Another Great Windhaven Chronicle

I've read several of The Windhaven Chronicles and I started to think I might get bored with this universe, but every time I'm sucked right back in. This is a fast paced high fantasy without all data dumps, just grab your seat and hang on for the ride. I love the writing style, it keeps me engaged never dull. I like how it's not YA, so doesn't pull punches. This story is about a girl with some interesting parents who's sole purpose in life is to be sacrificed. Her mother knew this and sent her away, but as teens do she ignores her caregivers, but this rebellion reveals the truth about her parentage and the power that entails.
